Biggest Branding Tip?

One of the things I am realizing in building and promoting this site is that most companies and a large section of the general public don’t understand branding well enough and even less so when it comes to building brands on the web.
They assume that if they just throw money at people that they will grow their brand or that buzz words will spellbind us all into buying their products, but if you are talking about branding a product, person, or company, what really works? What would be the online branding tip that you think everyone should know?
Leave a comment with your answer or write a post on your blog and let me know about it, and the best tip by November 1st will win a 6 Month Access Pass to Performancing Hive, a great private forum for web developers, designers, bloggers, internet marketers, and real experts in the field of online branding. This is a $60 value, but definitely worth more than that with the amazing people trading secrets, advice and tips on there.
While not a requirement of the contest, I would also love for everyone to sign up for my RSS feed and my newsletter. The newsletter will start early in the new year, and will include tips, thoughts and other advantages over top of what you will see here on the blog.

The best *personal* branding tip I have is to try to use the same username across all websites and services, but, *obviously* not the same passwords (you do use different passwords, right?).
There will be cases where you can’t use the same username, so try to use something similar enough to your mail one.

- WTLBest branding tip for online-only businesses:
Always use your domain name as your brand. It’s “BrandingDavid.com” – not “BrandingDavid.” Amazon.com always uses the “.com” in their name – their official business name is “Amazon.com LLC”
Edmunds.com isn’t just “Edmunds”
If you want people to recognize you as an online entity, always use your domain name. This also means that your domain should be “[business name].com” – don’t settle for anything less, or else you’ll be diluting the brand name.
- csburdickSocial Media. Get your company or yourself onto as many social networking sites possible. Use your products or company name or your even your own name if you are trying to brand yourself. The more exposure to everyone the more likely people are to stumble upon you or whatever you are trying to brand.
There are many services out there that allow people to update all the social media from one location very easily. Use this to your advantage to get information to people about what you or the company is doing.
