Goal of This Site

My name is David Peralty, and I created this site to organize my thoughts, opinions, and goals related to my career online. I also wanted to create a single location where people could track me that would never change, but also be more of a priority to me than just a personal blog. I will be giving out tips, tricks and ideas that I come up with as well as writing about all of my passions.

If you are a geek that loves technology, blogging, the web, and the occasional science fiction, then this blog will be for you. If you are looking for a knowledgeable speaker about the web, blogging, online advertising or being part of a blog network, then this site will also be for you.

Biography

I come from a military family, and so when people ask me where “home” is, I laugh. I have lived in both beautiful British Columbia and Ontario, Canada. My family went back and forth between the two provinces and as such, I have never lived anywhere longer than five years.

When I was young, I became interested in geek culture, both in the computer and gaming worlds and decided before I even went to High School what I wanted to do with my life.

All of that was thrown for a loop when I ended up without a stable job, and ended up writing about my passions online. Darren Rowse was the first to give me a chance in 2005 and since then, I have been working from wherever I call home on various projects online.

I still enjoy computers, video games, science fiction and other elements of what is traditionally known as “geek culture”, but have branched off in focusing more on how online business work, sustain themselves and even grow, and in balancing that, I have been learning more about myself, web workers and the online advertising business.

Career

Starting out as a guest poster for Darren Rowse while he went away on vacation, I had never assumed that, only a few short weeks after he returned from his trip, I would be a full time professional blogger.

I have told the story of my career many times, only because I never get sick of helping people realize that working on the web can be as much about luck and connections as it is about skill and passion.

After Darren returned from his vacation, he offered me a part-time position working for him, but at that point, I was only looking for a full-time job, and had to turn him down. Thankfully, Jacob Gower, came in and offered me a job, having written back and forth to me before as I interviewed him about his blog acquisitions only a few weeks before.

I slowly worked my way up to becoming the Director of Communications, though my responsibilities were much more than the title implies, it was a professional courtesy for all of the hard work I had done in building the network, maintaining it, and generating content.

After two years, various blogs were sold to Splashpress Media, and I went along with them as their new Head of Marketing.

Since then, I have moved through a few roles in a few companies, trying to focus in on both what exactly I am needed for, and what I can provide to companies. I have been a Community Manager, and Project Manager of some very large web properties, and continue to develop my own personal brand while expanding my skills online.
